Boat Dock Launch Checklist

The first thing that you need to do before you head out on the water is to make sure that the drain plug that is in the bottom of the boat is installed properly. Then you should give a last-minute check to ensure that you have all the adequate safety equipment that you may need onboard the craft. This includes spare bulbs as well as batteries.

Once you have completed those tasks, it is then time to disconnect the trailer lights and all the tie downs from the boat to the trailer. You can then back the boat trailer down the ramp until the boat stern begins to float and there is sufficient water to cool the engine.

After you have safely gotten your boat onto the water, you must then secure your boat with bow and stern lines. Then you can begin your pre-start system checks. The first of these is the oil and fluid levels. Once you have checked these, check the engine and bilge for leaks or loose connections. Then check the battery connections and electronics, clean out the raw water intake strainer, test the function of automatic and manually operated bilge pumps, and run the bilge blower for five minutes before you start the engine.

You should also take the opportunity to monitor the proper function of all your systems onboard including your raw water strainers, engine, and exhaust.
